Side Profile of a Woman

about.

After a long time of not practicing graphite, I decided I wanted to draw something out of the art studio and with my own liberties at home. This piece is depicting a woman who is somberly looking down, and it's taken of her side view. I really wanted to work on proportions since I believe thats the thing I struggle with the most at times. The time it took to finish this drawing was about 3 days. It took a lot less longer to finish because of my excitement on the piece.

challenge.

As for the challenge, I think what took the most time and patience was definitely the hair. I first started by drawing out sections then darkening the values of the sections to create the illusion of depth. Then, I honed in and individually worked on each strand or section, darkening each strand one by one. Although, after receiving some constructive criticism, I realized the proportions are still aren't correct, which means next time I'll have to work on how I structure the face.
